Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 20, 2025
Welcome to StudyGerman.app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you can manage it.
1. Information We Collect
To provide and improve our Service, we collect the following types of information:
A. Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: When you register for an account, either directly or via Google Login, we collect your name and email address. We do not collect your password from Google.
- User Content: We collect the custom vocabulary lists you create, including the words you add to them. This is a core feature of the Service.
- Payment Information: If you subscribe to our Premium service, our payment processor, PayPro Global, handles all transaction details. We do not receive or store your full payment card information.
B. Information We Collect Automatically
- Study Progress Data: To power our spaced repetition system (SRS), we automatically record your study activity. This includes which words you've studied, your performance rating for each flashcard (e.g., "Again", "Good", "Easy"), and the calculated due dates for your next review. This data is essential for personalizing your learning experience.
- Log and Device Data: Like most online services, our servers (hosted by Netlify and Supabase) automatically collect information that your browser sends. This may include your IP address, browser type, operating system, and access times. This data is used for security, analytics, and maintaining the stability of the Service.
C. Data Stored on Your Device (Cookies & Local Storage)
We use your browser's local storage and cookie capabilities to make the app work. This data is stored directly on your device.
- Authentication: Supabase, our backend provider, uses cookies to keep you securely logged in.
- Offline Sync Queue: To prevent you from losing study progress if your internet connection drops, we use your browser's IndexedDB to temporarily store flashcard updates. These updates are then synced with our servers when the connection is restored.
- Site Preferences: We use local storage to remember your settings, such as your preferred theme (light/dark) and study presets.
These technologies are used for essential functionality only. We do not use them for cross-site tracking or advertising.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- To provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including creating your account and personalizing your study sessions.
- To process your subscription payments through our payment processor.
- To sync your word lists and study progress across your devices (a Premium feature).
- To monitor the health of our Service, prevent fraudulent activity, and ensure its security.
- To communicate with you about your account or important service updates.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We only share your data with third-party services in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We rely on trusted third parties to provide parts of our Service. These
include:
- Supabase: Provides our database, authentication, and backend infrastructure.
- Netlify: Hosts our website.
- PayPro Global: Acts as our Merchant of Record to securely process payments and handle sales tax.
- Google: For authentication (if you choose to log in with Google) and to provide the fonts used on our site (Google Fonts).
- YouTube: If you use the "Listening Practice" feature, we embed YouTube videos. Your browser will interact directly with YouTube's servers, which are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
- Business Transfers: If we are involved in a merger or acquisition, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to the commitments made in this Privacy Policy.
4. Data Security
We take the security of your data seriously. We use technical measures, such as encryption and Supabase's Row-Level Security, to ensure that you are the only person who can access your personal study data. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
5. Advertising
Currently, we do not display third-party ads on our Service. However, we may choose to do so in the future to support the free features of the app. If we introduce advertising, this policy will be updated to clearly explain what data is shared with advertising partners.
6. Policy for Children
Our Service is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years of age or the age of digital consent in your country to use our Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, we will take steps to delete such information.
7. Your Data Rights
You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal information. You can manage your word lists directly within the app. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us at the email address below. Please note that we may need to retain certain information for legal or administrative purposes, such as transaction records.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
